|Mudjatik Thyssen Mining Joint Venture (2012)
|To Whom It May Concern:
The Mudjatik Thyssen mining Joint Venture (MTM) has performed most of the underground
construction works, including shaft sinking, drifting, production and construction, in the
underground uranium mines in northern Saskatchewan. One of many contracts has been the
sinking and lining of the Cigar Lake #2 shaft for Cameco, one of the premier uranium companies
in the world.
In January of 2012, MTM engaged the services of Sovereign Hydro, to use their specialized
grouting product NOH2O to grout behind a newly installed tubbing liner, in order to reduce water
inflow through the tubbing joints and seal off cold joints in the tubbing concrete. Sovereign
successfully injected their grout from the bottom of the tubbing column up, in two separate
The work was performed without any accidents or incidents and within the planned time frame. It
would appear that the grout penetrated very well and was very effective in forming a water barrier
between the rock and concrete interface, as well as in sealing any openings in the tubbing joints.
Based on the experience, MTM will continue to consider the use of NOH2O as an attractive
alternative to cement-based or other type of grouting products for grouting behind tubbing liners.
